/ TECHNAL, CARRIER OF HYDRO'S VALUES

Sustainable development is the greatest challenge facing industry today and we need to transform our economy. TECHNAL, as a brand of the Hydro Group, carries the Norwegian group's voluntary commitment to sustainable developmentHydro is a global supplier of aluminium with activities spanning the entire value chain, with the objective of achieving net zero by 2050 or earlier. We also aim to have low-carbon and close-to-zero material available in 2025 and 2030 respectively and to reduce our co2e emissions by 50% by 2025. Hydro also produces and uses renewable energy and plans to increase this over the coming years.

Our products are not only made with aluminium, they are made with sustainable, low-carbon, circular aluminium. All of our extrusion plants in Europe are ASI-certified. Hydro REDUXA®, made with renewable energy, offers only 4kg of CO2 per kg of aluminium. It’s 54% less than the European average¹.

With 75% of aluminium extracted from the earth still in use through existing structures and recycling, we are committed to use our resources sustainably by recycling end-of-life products into our Hydro CIRCAL® 75R aluminium, which is made with a minimum of 75% of recycled post-consumer scrap. Besides offering one of the lowest carbon footprints in the market (2.3 kg of CO2 per kg of aluminium, 73% less than the European average*) Hydro CIRCAL® is made with a proximity supply chain – all the recycled content is collected and recycled in Europe.

Hydro CIRCAL® offers performance, circularity, sustainability and uses 95% less energy than primary production. Since 2018, more than 300 Hydro CIRCAL® projects were built around the world, saving more than 28 kilotonnes of CO2 – which represent the annual emissions of twelve cars. Finally, since we are committed to offer transparency, Hydro CIRCAL® and Hydro REDUXA® are EPD-certified.

/ GREENER DESIGN OF OUR PRODUCTS

ECO-CONCEPTION DE NOS PRODUITSDriven by innovation, TECHNAL is considered by architects and buildings experts as the world leader in construction solutions. With a concern for continuous improvement, TECHNAL invests in R&D to offer you solutions to reduce the carbon footprint of buildings. This includes a constant improvement in the thermal performance of our products.

In order to enable you to meet building sustainability certifications such as LEED or BREEAM, we integrate the reflection on product sustainability right from the design phase. The Cradle to Cradle label on our product ranges, attests to our commitment.

The Cradle to Cradle label considers that any growth including the development of a new product, must integrate the needs of future generations. It is no longer a question of minimizing the impact of the product, but of thinking that its design benefits everyone by promoting the circular economy.

A voluntary approach initiated by TECHNAL, Cradle to Cradle products have been evaluated in terms of environmental and social performance in five sustainability categories: healthy materials, reuse of materials, renewable energy and carbon management, responsible water management and social equity.

Our new products have been created to move towards a circular economy. By using materials like Hydro CIRCAL 75R and polyamide strips made with recycled content we address the impact in the build phase. Our creation of high performing products ensures the sustainability is addressed during the use-phase. By ensuring the product is 100% recyclable when removed from a building we address the impact of the product in the end-of-life phase.
